Unique Events and Activities
Every city has restaurants, bars, and sports, but Pittsburgh truly has unique entertainment and events. Every year Pittsburgh houses the annual Carnegie International at the Carnegie Museum of Art, an exhibit of emerging global artists. The 2013 show, alone, brought artists from 19 different countries. Many Pittsburgh events revolve around its three rivers, such as The Three Rivers Regatta, Kayak Pittsburg, and the Riverfront Trail. From art to concert series to summits and conventions, Pittsburgh hosts a truly unique set of opportunities.
Diverse Style & Architecture
No matter what your design preference is, Pittsburgh undoubtedly has a home for you. Known for their eclectic style, Pittsburgh neighborhoods have everything from contemporary new construction to restored Victorians. Other popular styles include street-lined Row Houses, Brownstones, Colonials, and Tudors. Pittsburgh is perhaps best known for its beautiful Craftsman-style homes. Many Pittsburgh neighborhoods are populated with beautiful brick homes, accented with original woodwork. But, no matter what you’re looking for, you can easily find a home in Pittsburgh that suits your style.
Affordable Home Ownership
The Post Gazette reports that Pittsburgh is the fifth most affordable city in the U.S. According to Census research, homeowners from Pittsburgh spend a much lower portion of their income on their homes than in other metropolitan areas of the country. When comparing the close gap between the average home price and median income across the country to homeowners in Pittsburgh, it’s no wonder why 69.8 percent of Pittsburgh residents own their homes, according to the most recent Census Bureau data.
Pittsburgh is made up of a variety of neighborhoods, each with unique aspects to offer. Many residents love how each neighborhood feels like a small town within itself. Living within walking distance of cafes, restaurants, parks, and storefront shops makes Pittsburgh a desirable place to raise a family.
More to come about these unique neighborhoods in my upcoming series, Neighborhoods of Pittsburgh.
