We’ve researched the most desirable neighborhood traits and centered our featured neighborhoods around our favorites. This week we’ll be talking about one of Pittsburgh’s most scenic neighborhoods, Sewickley. The name Sewickley means “Sweet Water,” a perfect description of the area’s scenic riverside location. It also bears the name “The Village.” The Village is a beautiful neighborhood of condominiums and townhouses, known for its a variety of housing styles and upscale amenities. Just 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, Sewickley is a beautiful residential area with a walkable downtown and a thriving community.

Rosewood Sewickley Shops

The downtown area features shops, restaurants, and cafes, as well as yoga studios and art galleries. The restaurants range from modern, chic nighttime spots like B Gourmet, a trendy fusion of Mediterranean, Southwestern, Asian, and New American cuisine, to Ultimate Pastry Shop, an old-fashioned cake, and dessert shop. Residents can also enjoy shopping at the lovely and chic women’s clothing boutique, Rosewood.  Rosewood is known for its beautiful selection of in-style ladies' wear. The business district is a scenic part of the neighborhood, providing area residents a place to walk and visit.

Sewickley Academy

Sewickley schools are highly rated, receiving a score of 9 out of 10 on GreatSchools.org The area is also home to Sewickley Academy, a large private school with an enrollment of around 700.  Sewickley Academy is known for its wide variety of programs and classes and its vigorous academics.  Also part of Sewickley’s thriving community is its diversity of churches: Triumph Baptist Church, Saint Stephens Episcopal Church, and Saint Paul's Lutheran Church are just a few.

The neighborhood contains many old original Victorian homes as well as new construction. This is a neighborhood best suited for home buyers looking for big yards, driveway and garage space, and lots of bedrooms. Over the years, the homes of Sewickley have maintained their value and desirability.

In the coming years, Sewickley will continue to develop as a community with projects such as Village Green, which aims to “continue building momentum toward shaping, molding, and reinventing Sewickley into the most successful community in the area.”
