February begins the onset of tax season. Recently I learned that many Pennsylvania homeowners do not take advantage of one of the tax benefits of owning a home. Enacted into law in 2006, the Taxpayer Relief Act with the purpose of lowering the amount of taxes paid by PA residents. Most notable for homeowners is the Homestead Exclusion, which, if applied for, allows for a lower property tax bill for eligible property owners.
If you haven’t already submitted an application for this exclusion, don’t delay! The deadline is March 1st. The application only needs to be submitted one time for as long as you live in your home, but should you move, a new application will need to be submitted for your new home.
